About Flower Essences
Flower essences are among the most useful and effective methods available for creating a positive shift in our thoughts, emotions and behaviour - improving daily life and contributing to long term wellbeing.
The remedies, or essences, are infusions of wild flowers, from their native ecosystem, in water and a natural preservative. Each species of flower has different characteristics and will therefore remedy different conditions.
Flower essences have been used to address emotional imbalances by cultures around the world since ancient times. In the 1930's the method was systematised by an English doctor (Edward Bach) and made more widely available to the public. For example Bach Rescue Remedy, now widely available in chemists and supermarkets.
Using Flower Essences
Dosage involves a few drops of the essence in a glass of water, sipped regularly throughout the day, for a few days, weeks or months until there is a consistent improvement with the issue being remedied. The length of time depends on:
the nature of the condition,
how long it's been present,
the remedy’s own characteristics, and
inner or outer factors which may either exacerbate or help heal the condition.
However during the treatment period there will still be a gradual improvement, and all the above factors will be addressed during a consultation and prescription.
If the issue is acute (sudden onset, short duration), such as anxiety or panic, the treated water may need to be sipped every 10min for an hour or so. Dosage can also be taken with drops under the tongue.
Flower essences are safe to use in conjunction with other therapies, such as medication or supplements. In fact other therapies can be enhanced by the use of flower remedies. If you are seeing a psychologist (seeking improvement in a particular area) then a corresponding flower remedy will make it easier to develop the new habit, or new way of thinking and feeling. Or if a physical illness is being exacerbated by an emotional condition or environmental stress then flower remedies can improve our response to these influences.
